WE STOPPED THE UTILITY BAILOUT!

Wildfire Survivors across California stood together and stopped Governor Newsom from changing the law to benefit for profit-utilities at the expense of wildfire victims! Thank you for your efforts!

WHAT HAPPENED IN SACRAMENTO

In the final hours of the legislative session, Governor Newsom's office and utility lobbyists were negotiating a last-minute deal that could have:

  • Limited what survivors can recover for their losses and make it harder to get legal representation.
  • Shielded utilities from paying the full cost of the fires they cause, shifting more of that burden onto insurance companies and policyholders.
  • Made it harder for survivors to fight back if they're not satisfied with what they're offered.
  • Protected the profits of the power utility companies at the expense of wildfire survivors.

This was the same "gut-and-amend" playbook utilities used last year with SB 254 — rewriting a bill in its final days and rushing it through before anyone can review it.

Fairness for Fire Victims started with PG&E wildfire survivors still owed the 30% they were never paid. As the for-profit power utilities have kept starting fires and shifting the cost to everyone but themselves, our fight has only grown. Every survivor of a utility-caused fire belongs in this coalition. Their priorities are profits. Ours are people.

Survivors across the country rallied and told Governor Newsom and legislative leaders that we will not quietly accept our rights and voices being taken away from us!

Thousands of phone calls were made and emails sent. Hundreds of you showed up to Sacramento to make your voices heard. And the legislative session ended with no utility bailout being passed!

But our fight continues. The for-profit utility companies will keep pushing and we'll keep standing up to stop them.

TAKE ACTION

Thank Legislators Who Stood With Us!

We want to send a big THANK YOU! To these legislators who stood with survivors, not utility companies.
Please call these legislators and tell them THANK YOU for standing with survivors!
